Benson was a thick boy when he came into OC Pom Rescue's care; so thick, that he was on a special diet and only able to take slow walks. This kind of commitment is not for everyone, and his previous family surrendered him because of their inability to take care of him. Thankfully, Benson not only found a foster family willing to work on his weight and give him the care he needed, but he found a forever family in 2022 that loves all of his fluffiness! What was your experience like adopting a dog? What were you looking for in a dog? How did you know it was the right fit?
"Our mini Aussie had recently passed, and we were looking for another dog that was lower energy. We read the description for Benson and it was like he was made for our family! We knew it was the right fit when we met him for the first time with our family at a park with his foster family. He was so cute and happy; he was great with our kids, and when we took him home, he was great with our cat."
Tell us about your pup! Describe your dog's personality and their favorite things to do. How has your dog adjusted to your home and family?
"Benson’s emotional range goes from happy to exuberant. He loves people and he loves attention! He really likes to come with me in the car when I pick my kids up from school. He loves going for walks, but they tend to be short and slow. Our older boy takes pride in walking him and teaching him new tricks like fist bumps."
How has adopting changed your life? What are the biggest benefits of adopting a rescue dog? What advice would you give to someone considering adopting a rescue dog?
"I can’t imagine anyone surrendering Benson, but I’m glad they did! We lucked out because he is the best dog ever! He is like an antidepressant in dog form. You can’t help but smile when you see him. I think the benefit of adopting a dog is that you know its personality and if it is a fit for your family. I read a lot of descriptions for mini Aussies in other rescues, and realized I really needed a calmer dog with our kids. Benson reminds us a bit of our mini Aussie (he’s almost the same size), but he has the right temperament for our young family."
