Life After Rescue: Cocoa & Muffin

What is life like for a Pomeranian after OC Pom Rescue? For Cherry and Amelia, they had only known humans who had failed to give them the life they deserved; that is, until they were given the opportunity to be loved and to play!

OC Pom Rescue reached out to their community of adopters to check in on where our Pomeranians are now, and to no shock, our families were eager to send us photos and updates.

Cherry and Amelia were adopted from OC Pom Rescue in 2020. They were surrendered together after being in a home for a few months that just was not equipped for young, puppy energy. OC Pom Rescue had these two in different foster homes to see if they were bonded, and they were not, so we really did not expect them to go to the same home--and neither did this family!

What was your experience like adopting a dog? What were you looking for in a dog? How did you know it was the right fit?

"It was very difficult to find a reputable and trustworthy animal rescue. Trying to adopt from public animal shelter was very frustrating, especially during the pandemic. We were looking for a dog that was similar to our dog that we had for 10 years."

Feili and her family were a fun application to receive--they had three teenage boys and were really flexible with the dog they were wanting to welcome into their home. Their only requirement was that the pup was nice and had energy; and boy, did we have the dogs for them! Both Amelia and Cherry, now known as Cocoa and Muffin, were rambunctious dogs. Their families had many stories of their daily shenanigans, including zoomies at the park and tackling puzzles with treats inside. Not only did they have energy, but they enjoyed playing with kids!

Tell us about your pup! Describe your dog's personality and their favorite things to do. How has your dog adjusted to your home and family?

"We adopted one first and ended up adopted her sister few weeks later. It was the best decision we have ever made. They are great together and we are so in love with them."

It is always a joy meeting people that share OC Pom Rescue's mission of saving and rehabilitating dogs, especially when they have not been given the chance at a great life like they deserve. Feili and her family understood the significance of rescuing and supporting dogs, so much so, that they opened up their home to two pups!

How has adopting changed your life? What are the biggest benefits of adopting a rescue dog? What advice would you give to someone considering adopting a rescue dog?

"Definitely try to rescue from a reputable place like OC Pom. We not only gained the dogs, we joined a wonderful family of animal loving organization."

Us volunteers at OC Pom Rescue always joke about how the dogs get "thicc" when we do our one year check in, and that is usually because the dogs gain a couple of pounds of happy weight. OC Pom sees the dogs at their worst, so to see them at their best is really inspiring and motivates us to do what we do. But, we would not be able to do that without people like Feili and her family!
